The lean mass index (LMI) indicates the muscle volume of the body. It can be used to assess progress made during strength training sessions, or to initiate a change in diet. For ambitious or professional strength athletes, LMI replaces body mass index (BMI), which is irrelevant for muscular people because muscle weights more tehn fat. BMI is more suitable for people with little muscle and is only a first comparison. The Lean Mass Index, on the other hand, is better suited to athletes who train regularly and provides a much more relevant analysis of body condition.
